The P&G internship programme is a successful way to hire future R&D employees in Europe (Reading, UK and Kronberg, Germany). It is a period of mutual trial - a chance for you to gain industrial experience, look at us as a potential future employer and for us to see your capabilities.
The P&G main internship normally runs for 10-12 weeks in the summer break but they also offer internships/placements/thesis for longer periods (up to 1 year) and at different times of the year. Next opportunities will be available as of June 2012.
On top of a great learning experience, participants will also receive an attractive remuneration package.
Job Responsibilities
During the internship students will:
1. be responsible for their own project(s) as part of a European project team that includes senior management,
2. have an opportunity to put their technical skills to work on intellectually challenging problems,
3. improve their team working and management skills through practical experience and interactive training courses,
4. learn to work effectively with people of different nationalities and cultural backgrounds,
5. experience the working environment in a leading international company, and
6. gain guidance on their professional development
Job Requirements
P&G are looking for Design students from a range of Design related backgrounds (Industrial design, Product Design and Design Engineering).
It is preferable that students are in their penultimate year of a superior degree (PhD's also considered) and have a demonstrated history of academic excellence at all stages through school and university education.
In addition to good knowledge of English, we also look for skills such as technical curiosity, creativity, innovation, initiative, communication, leadership and the ability to work with others.
Candidates must be eligible to work in the UK as work permit will not be facilitated for outside EU passport holders.
Design internship role description
The design role in Reading requires creative conceptual thinking and a strong design skills base to bring concepts to life. Primarily the role involves developing the skills to gather consumer and technical insights, whole brain creative thinking to turn insights into ideas and design skills to turn ideas into shaving concepts.
As an intern candidate we expect students to show through their portfolio work examples of creative conceptual thinking. We expect to develop a skills base in consumer research and evaluation of ideas. We look for strong base level of design tools such as sketching and CAD from which we can build during the internship. The type of project work we assign to student varies from broad design brief in a strategic opportunity area through to design development of already formed ideas. We will coach interns through the process of invention and design to develop working examples of their ideas for consumer testing.
The basic requirements:
1. Design principles, form, structure, colour, materials and finishes
2. Consumer centred design principles
3. Ergonomics and usability principles
4. Product interaction design principles.
5. Sketching and artwork skills, manual and digital - as a way of exploring, developing and sharing ideas
6. CAD/CAM
7. Studio Modelling - again as a way of early and fast exploration, inventiveness of producing feasibility models quickly, cheaply and efficiently in a studio environment to gather quick learning
8. Basic workshop skills including lathe and mill
9. Design for Manufacture from bespoke to batch and mass manufacture techniques and their effect on how you would design the product and assemblies.
Please keep an electronic version of your CV in English available to attach to your application.
Deadline for application is April 15, 2012.
