INTERNSHIP OFFERS in Brussels, Belgium in EU Policy or Visual Communications

Two internship positions are currently available at EUROPEN (The European Organization for Packaging and the Environment), Europe’s largest packaging and environmental industry association.
1. Internship focused on assisting in EU policy work within EUROPEN’s scope
2. Internship focused on Communication and Webdesign

Are you ready to experience European policy making and shaping in the heart of Europe and be working on an array of issues ranging from packaging and sustainability, food waste, environmental policies and communication on packaging? Our members count some of the world’s biggest companies and they are all dedicated to satisfactorily addressing the environmental challenges facing the packaging supply chain.

We are looking for two interns to assist the EUROPEN office on a variety of tasks at the EUROPEN office in the EU area
in Brussels. The internships will provide you with an opportunity to apply theoretical knowledge in a real life setting, in-
depth understanding of EU issues and cross-cultural work experience.

The two internships will take place from the 1st of February until the 1st of August 2012 or longer if
possible.

Examples of tasks include:
- Participating at meetings and giving feedback
- Producing internal information material to be used in working with packaging & environmental issues
- Working in cross-functional teams to coordinate activities with members
- Updating and reviewing internal documents to ensure alignment
- Producing Power Point Presentations to be used in presentations and meetings
- Working on individual research projects (Web design and presentation material)

Qualifications

- Independent, dynamic, and open-minded personality
- High level of written and oral English
- Completed minimum second year of undergraduate studies
- A background in EU studies and/or Communication Studies
- Previous job experience is preferred, but not required
- Basic IT competence (Word, Excel, PPT, Internet) – knowledge in web design is preferred.

EUROPEN will assist with administrative issues and provide information on different options of accommodation. The internships are without remuneration. However, EUROPEN will cover transport, accommodation and other expenses (TBD). Furthermore, certain studies allow credit transfers from internships. If this is the case, you will be able to get funding during your internship.

INTERNSHIP in Zurich, Switzerland as a Junior Web Designer Intern

The Role
We are seeking an ambitious and highly motivated Junior Web Designer for a 3 month Internship to be part of our Sites & Experience team based in Zurich. You will be helping with designing and optimizing online pages and campaigns. You will also be supporting the Marketing team with banner production, optimizing picture material and designing promo concepts.
Responsibilities

* Conceptualize, design, and implement multiple design templates
* Selection and cropping of images for existing design templates based on market/product needs
* Work with the developer for basic development of the web page

Requirements
* Proficiency in Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and related packages.
* Flash, CSS knowledge
* Ability to work effectively in a cross-functional, international team environment.
* Ability to work in a fast paced environment, being proactive and working on tight deadlines.
* Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects and tasks simultaneously.
* Strong verbal and written communications skills in English.
* Graduated or working towards and degree in Graphic Design or a related field is a plus.

INTERNSHIP offers in Amani, Greece for a non-profit organisation, ongoing recruitment

The Chios Institute for Mediterranean Affairs is a young and innovative non-governmental, not-for-profit organisation located on one of Greece many islands which works as a meeting point for civil society actors, businessmen and researchers throughout the Mediterranean.

To this aim, CIMA...

  • Functions as a Euro-Mediterranean agora, where regional issues of common interest can be debated;
  • Fosters cultural exchanges and dialogue between civil societies throughout the Mediterranean through its EuroMed Forum;
  • Spreads information about regional economic opportunities, attract investments and economic activities at the local level;
  • Promotes sustainable tourism and environmental awareness;
  • Takes part in the ongoing reflection on the Euro-Mediterranean Partnership through a series of academic publications;
  • Organises education and training events (summer schools).
Who are we looking for?
We are looking for talented and committed interns from a broad variety of academic disciplines: Geography, Political Science, International Relations, Anthropology, Cultural Studies, Linguistics, Law, Development Studies, Journalism, Media and Communication, Multimedia Web Design.

However, we do not select interns on the basis of the courses they attended. Your previous professional experiences, your hobbies and interests, your personal and linguistic skills, your motivation and commitment to CIMA’s goals and your willingness to be part of an international and intercultural team are what we are really looking for.

What would be your responsibilities as an intern?
As a CIMA intern, you will support our activities in one of the four priority areas defined for the years 2010 and 2011:
  • Development of our internet website (up to 2 interns);
  • Development of our contact database in the Mediterranean (up to 2 interns);
  • Creation of a newsletter (up to 2 interns);
  • Support for the organisation of events (1 intern per event).
In addition, you may be asked to help us in the everyday running of CIMA by:
  • Updating the content of our website;
  • Researching for blog entries or new policy papers;
  • Preparing upcoming NGO meetings;
  • Performing other relevant administrative tasks.

Finally, CIMA’s Headquarters are located in the province of Amani, in the Northwest of Chios island in Greece. As a CIMA intern, you will also:
  • Be located right at the centre of the Eastern Mediterranean;
  • Experience life on one of the most beautiful and well-preserved island of the Mediterranean;
  • Live in a traditional, fully-equipped house in the village of Volissos.
Duration
We offer internships for a period of 3 to 12 months.

Language
Since CIMA’s working language is English, we can only accept interns fluent in this language. You do not need to speak Greek, but the ability to work in a Mediterranean language is an asset.
The priority languages for the coming years are: Spanish, French, Italian, Turkish, Arabic, Hebrew.

Costs of Living
Unfortunately, we cannot cover the costs of living for our interns. You may therefore decide to come at your own expenses or through a European programme encouraging mobility, such as Leonardo or Erasmus. For more information on these programmes and in order to know whether you are eligible to receive a grant, please ask the International Office at your university.

Accommodation
We can organise your accommodation in a traditional and fully equipped house in the village of Volissos. This house is large enough for up to 10 interns. We cover the rent for interns coming at their own expenses. Interns who receive a grant through to a European mobility programme will be asked to contribute EUR 50 to 100 monthly depending on the auxiliary costs (gas, water, electricity).

Availability and Funding – indicate the proposed dates of your internship (beginning, end and duration) and whether your internship will be funded. Please note that, between two equally qualified candidates, we will favour those who are coming through a European mobility programme (ERASMUS or Leonardo).
Proposed Responsibilities – indicate two of the four priority areas mentioned on page 2 of the Call for Interns. If you want to help in the organisation of an upcoming event, please indicate which event using the annex list on page 5 of the Call for Interns.

Overview: 
We are looking for candidates with a broad understanding of web design. This part-time position will last approximately 4 months with the possibility of full-time recruitment. School credit is available.

Detailed Description:
As a Web Design Intern, you will work closely to design, program and maintain the company website as well as some in-house, title specific websites. You will also work to integrate all functions of both artwork and data storage, creating a seamless connection between the two.

Desired Skills:
Candidates must be highly motivated with the following qualities:
• Working knowledge of Photoshop, Illustrator, Flash, and HTML
• Must have a strong understanding of technical issues surrounding web content, creation and maintenance
• Ability to keep abreast of emerging technologies.
