Internship in Brussels, Belgium for an IT start-up as a Data Mining Intern

Proxi-IT is an innovative, Belgian IT start-up company located in Brussels who are currently working on an exciting project within the medical industry.
They are recruiting interns on an ongoing basis and ideally looking for a student that fits the profile of being a researcher/student with interest and knowledge of Data Mining.

The right candidate will be responsible of:
- Validation / processing and analysis of data collected from customers;
- Development of statistical forecasting tools;
- Using techniques from the world of data mining (Data Mining, Analytics) and machine
learning;
- Propose prediction algorithms adapted to the targeted goal
- Evaluate the performance of selected algorithms;
- Ensure the ongoing adaptation of statistical models and algorithms to ensure performance
and compliance depending on customer environments

Qualifications
- Permission to work in the EU, Proxi-IT is a start-up company and are not able to provide any work visa.
- English speaker (french is not mandatory but a plus)
- Master level or higher in orientation Statistics-Mathematics / Computer Science related subjects;
- Usual use of main data mining tools (neuronal networks, genetic algorithms, ...)
- IT tools: DBMS= MySQL
 Tools for data retrieval (eg ETL)
- Significant experience in the development of data mining tools like SPSS, SAS and KXEN.
- Openness, creativity and autonomy are essential qualities for this innovative project
- Rigorous analysis and methods
- Ability to communicate with others (methods used, results of the various meanings, ...)

Practical information
If the right candidate is found the ideal starting period will be in January-February 2012 for a duration that can be flexible, but optimally would be for 6 months.
Location: Central Brussels- Rue des Palais
Remuneration: Negotiable- depending of the outcome of the interns work output.

About this job 

Are you looking for an internship that's exciting where you can learn more than brewing coffee? We're looking for one or two bright and highly motivated people who want to breathe in startup musk, believe in changing the way people work, and learn a lot, whilst having fun in a great team.

Time frame is three to six months or longer, starting from now. Location is Copenhagen. 20 hours a week minimum - can be a mix of remote and in the office. 

What will you do? 

• You'll help us develop our analytical capability by drilling deep into Podio data.
• You'll work directly with SQL to extract aggregate user data and infer patterns and behaviours.
• You'll work extensively with Google Analytics.
• You will help to define and develop our own in-house analysis tools and scripts.
• You'll be working directly with the CEO, Tommy Ahlers and the CTO, Phil Chambers.

What does it take?

• A love of numbers, and clear ways to present data.
• Strong SQL experience, don't apply if you can't write time-based queries.
• Proficiency in Excel and/or other statistical tools.
• A strong sense of initiative and a can-do attitude.
• An ability to learn fast.
• Excellent English communication skills (spoken and written).
