IDEO Munich is looking for a business-savvy design thinker. This generative role requires a unique blend of real-world experience and theory, entrepreneurial zeal and boardroom polish. Business Design Interns work collaboratively, creatively, and flexibly within interdisciplinary teams and with our clients. Being a designer at IDEO means you do a lot of listening, observing, brainstorming and iterating with a group of people with backgrounds very different than yours.
All Intern candidates must:
Be passionate about their craft/area of specialization
Demonstrate a clear “point-of-view” relating to their design
Play nicely with others (IDEO is a very team-oriented culture)
Be self-directed toward excellent work outcomes
Thrive in ambiguity You will work as a member of interdisciplinary IDEO teams to create market-pacing offerings for clients. At IDEO we "think to build". This means understanding context, developing insight, exploring and defining.
We are looking for people with formal training in business and design. Successful candidates will combine rigorous business acumen across all of the following areas along with world-class depth in one or two:
- Marketing
- Finance
- Organizational Behavior
- Brand
- Product Development
- The ability to work in multidisciplinary design teams
- Outstanding verbal and written communication skills
- Candidates should have significant operational experience taking offerings to market, whether as an entrepreneur or intrapreneur.
Important notes:
• Although business school is not a requirement for this position, MBA students in their first year are highly encouraged to apply
• We are only considering students who are in the midst of their schooling or who will be returning to school for our internships!
• Internship lasts 2-3 months
You will favorably impress us by attaching either: A description of a project where you used the human-centered design process to bring something new to the world OR your response to this exercise: find an environment where you can watch people going through daily life (such as a park, a restaurant, a transit station or vehicle etc.) Spend time observing activities and interactions, documenting what you notice (in photos or diagrams for instance) and share with us your thoughts about how people's experiences there could be enhanced, and what resulting opportunities there might be for a viable market offering.
